Last night, Evan surprised me with dinner at Blue Ribbon and part 1 of “Triumph of the Nerds.” It was a perfect evening.
This might the best meal I’ve ever cooked: buttermilk pecan chicken, w/spinach and garlic mashed potatoes
Really enjoying this blog for a look at New York’s musical summer from a visitor’s point of view. It may be hard to get excited about the parks and clubs and Dan Deacon shows that have just always been there, but they’re new to this guy, and that’s fun to read.
Spotted on Carmine last night: Beth, rocking a fabulous summer cardigan and our vinyl earrings
OUT: English Breakfast w/milk and sugar
IN: Iced green Moroccan mint w/a squeeze of lime (thanks, Nick!)
Everyone’s always like lollll Comic Sans *FAIL*, etc, but no one ever talks about how awful Dakota is. This font is everywhere, and it looks like a quick livetrace. (It was made by a company that digitizes handwriting, so that’s probably not far from the truth.) At least Comic Sans is a well-drawn font w/bad cultural associations. Dakota’s just bad.
It shipped w/some kind of Apple app (Apple bought it in 2001, but it’s not a system font), making it easy to add that special, personal touch to homepages everywhere. ABC used it on the LOST finale bumpers to convey that real people had written in comments about the show, on napkins, w/a fountain pen. It may never reach Comic Sansian saturation, but I think Dakota’s poised to overtake Sand as the “off-hand, casual” font for people who have never experienced human handwriting.
